7 Days – Lemosho Route

Overview

Lemosho route 7 days climbing Mount Kilimanjaro, the route is one of the best routes for trekking. Mount Kilimanjaro is the highest mountain in Africa and the highest-free standing mountain in the world. This route is on the western side of the mountain and it comprised of different stations and is the perfect time to spot some of the wildlife species and birds in the vegetation. The Best time to Climb Lemosho Route is during the dry seasons. These are from January to mid-March and from June to October.

Arrival and Briefing
We shall pick you up from Kilimanjaro Airport or Arusha airport and transfer you to your hotel in Moshi. After checking in the hotel you will get a briefing about your next day’s and check trek equipment gears.

7 Days 6 Nights

Itinerary

This morning after breakfast drive to Londorosi Gate. Drive directed to Lemosho trailhead. At the park entrance, our staff will continue with the registration and later, you will start your hike in attractive vegetation and shrub forest. You should expect rain and fog. You will have a lunch break and you will reach the Forest Camp (2650m) in the late afternoon or early evening, this is a 3-4 hours’ walking journey. In the evening, a hot dinner will be served followed by overnight at Forest Camp.

After early morning breakfast, you will take this short tour to the shira 2 camp. This is a 7-8 hours’ walking journey. You will begin your ascent out of the rainforest and into the heather moorland zone meadows by a stream. You will cross many streams and walk over a plateau that leads to Shira 2 Camp (3840m), the weather is cold in this camp. Later on the evening you will enjoy dinner followed by overnight in Shira Camp 2.

Today, we take morning breakfast, we leave the moorland environment from the Shira Plateau we continue and enter the semi-desert and landscape. The hike to the base of the tower, takes around 4-5 hours. The direction proceeds towards the Lava tower then continue to the Barranco Camp at 3900m. More time to relax and enjoy is much needed, dinner will be served early to give time for relaxation.

Prepare for another great day hiking through Mount Kilimanjaro. After breakfast, you will start climbing from Barranco camp to Karanga valley camp from the top, at 4,200m; follow an undulating path around the mountainside and the junction which connects with the Mweka Trail. On this day, there is alpine desert and you can see the view of Mount Meru to your right-side, the hike to the Karanga Valley takes around 3-4 hours. In the evening we make camp, rest, enjoy dinner, and prepare for the next day.

From Karanga we continue up to the Barafu Camp (4650m), “Barafu” means to “ice” in Swahili. Barafu Camp is the final stop on the Southern Circuit before the summit, which offers views of the summit from many different zones. Barranco Valley has unique landscape and flora including the Dendrosenecio kilimanjari, or giant groundsels. The hike typically takes about 4-5 hours to cover 4 kilometers. Later on you have to rest and prepare for the final summit, dinner and overnight at Barafu camp.

Early in the morning begin your final ascent to the summit of Kilimanjaro, taking approximately 5-7 hours. It can be very cold at night at these elevations, but it will be warm by the end of the hiking day and you need clothing for both extremes. During the ascent, you will reach Stella Point (5685m), located on the crater rim. After enjoying the magnificent sunrise, you will continue ascending for about 2 hours on a snow-covered trail to Uhuru Peak (5895m). From the summit we begin our descent by continuing straight down to the Mweka Camp, stopping at Barafu for lunch. You may want gaiters and trekking poles for the loose gravel going down. We arrive at Mweka Camp and enjoy our last evening on the mountain.

After breakfast we continue the descent down to the Mweka Park Gate to receive your summit certificates. After that our tour guide will drive you to Moshi where you will check in the hotel for relaxation before travel back home.
